We are now taking orders for Japanese chestnut (Castanea crenata) seedlings. Unfortunately, we are sold out of Chinese chestnuts and Chinese-type hybrids. The Japanese chestnut seedlings are derived mostly from stock obtained from the Korean Institute of Forest Genetics, plus a few Japanese trees obtained from Connecticut and Pennsylvania. Nut quality from these trees is good (easy peeling and sweet) by Japanese chestnut standards, but probably not as good as typical Chinese chestnuts. Not recommended for large-scale commercial orchards. Limited supply.
